Mindful Meno Mermaids

(weekly on Thursdays at 8.45am)

Welcome to Mindful Meno Mermaids... make space for weekly mindful walks, meno chat and giggles under an open sky

Take some time to tune into nature and meet like-minded people for a weekly 30 minute walk to boost your mental and physical wellbeing. The walk will tap into the 5 steps to wellbeing and warm up your body ready for a swim if you choose to do so.

This group is designed for women who will, or are, experiencing menopause; women and mermaids who want to benefit from the great outdoors with or without their mermaid tails. You do not have to be an outdoor swimmer but if you would like to swim in Clevedon Marine Lake this is a natural follow on to maximise the 'feel good' factor of this meetup.

Anyone who attends Mindful Meno Mermaids can join the online community. This is a safe nurturing space to help you find comfort in knowing you’re not alone on the perimenopausal/ menopausal journey and beyond.

My passion is helping people improve their mental and physical wellbeing and I have been doing this on a one to one basis since 2006. I have been told I am warm and welcoming and therefore a key part of my role will be about helping everyone feel welcome and at ease.

As someone who appreciates the value of smiling and laughter I would like to encourage the group not to take itself too seriously! I am also passionate about the benefits of the great outdoors and as a woman ‘of a certain age’ I have created this informal group to help you…

Keen to join a support network of menopausal mermaids, have a few laughs and boost your wellbeing under an open sky? Get in touch to enjoy our weekly meetup on Thursdays at 8.45am.

Red Hot Mermaids Meetup

The Red Hot Mermaids meet up weekly on a Thursday at 8.45am. Watch this space for other meetups.

What?

You will meet up with like-minded people for a 30 minute walk to boost your mental and physical wellbeing. The walk will tap into the 5 steps to wellbeing and warm up your body ready for a swim if you choose to do so.

Leave mermaid tails behind for the walk! You need to be fairly physically fit as we will walk up hills/ a steep set of steps. Please get in touch if you wish to discuss this. If it's likely to be muddy please where appropriate footwear for the day/ season.

Please note that this meetup does not include support for swimming other than the potential to swim with people from the group afterwards. All swims are at your own risk and you are advised to exercise caution especially during the winter. It's safer for swimmers to dip together in a controlled way than to swim alone.

After your first meetup you will get access to the closed Red Hot Mermaid Facebook community where you can connect further with like-minded people. Within the Red Hot Mermaid group you will find a link to the tip that the group will be trying during that week. To get maximum benefit from this meetup please try to commit to putting this tip into practice. If for any reason this doesn't feel right for you please try to find something else to do that is similar.

As women make up nearly half the world’s population it’s crucial they feel supported and can continue to thrive.

Who?

DUPLICATE from intro: This meetup is designed with perimenopausal/ menopausal women in mind; women who want to reap the benefits of the great outdoors with or without their mermaid tails. You do not have to be a swimmer but if you would like to swim in Clevedon Marine Lake this is a natural follow on from this meetup.

You may be wondering about me and how my skills and experience lend themselves to facilitate the Red Hot Mermaids. I am passionate about the benefits of the great outdoors and helping people. I recognise how social connection can benefit anyone at any time and understand that If you are going through the menopause or experiencing perimenopaual symptoms this will be even more important for you. I am warm and welcoming and strive to help people feel included in any group.

Why?

This regular meetup has been created as a simple and effective way to start the menopause conversation (and keep it going). It is intended to provide a safe nuturing space, both in person and online, for women to listen, learn from each other and ask questions. In the meetup and beyond you will benefit from the 5 steps to wellbeing and a weekly task to further boost your mental/ physical wellbeing.

This meet up and online community has been created to help you find comfort in knowing you’re not alone on the perimenopausal/ menopausal journey and beyond. It aims to normalise this transition and help women learn from each other. By talking to others you will hopefully feel forewarned of things to come and clearer about anything that’s already happening to you.

So even if you are not sure if you are experiencing any perimenopausal/ menopausal symptoms please join us anyway. Start as you mean to go on by being proactive in setting up a network so you are better prepared to deal with life changes such as this. We may differ in cause, age, or stage but we all cope better with support. It’s never too early!

For the first time in history, women are likely to be experiencing symptoms related to perimenopause/ menopause/ postmenopause for longer than they are reproductive. As women make up nearly half the world’s population it’s crucial they feel supported and can continue to thrive.

Many women have suffered in silence and continue to do so. My aim is to run a meetup and online community where people can feel comfortable talking about their experiences. This will inevitably impact their physical and mental health and wellbeing so that they can carry on with life as usual.

Everyone should be able to talk openly about the menopause, feel safe to ask questions and have the opportunity to connect and support other women. This benefits everyone, both at work and at home.

Results of the ‘Women’s Health – Let’s talk about it’ survey (April 2022) showed that 48% of respondents wanted the Department of Health and Social Care to prioritise the menopause as one of 5 topics for inclusion in the Women’s Health Strategy.
