About Your Life Coach ~ Bristol & North Somerset
Hello! I'm Claire Paul, a self employed psychologist specialising in helping people achieve positive change. To create a truly personalised experience, I draw from a range of techniques, including Solution Focused Therapy, NLP Life Coaching, Cognitive Behavioural Coaching, and Hypnotherapy.
Claire Paul (Hons), MSc, Dip. Hyp, Dip. LC/ PC
Since the late 1980’s I have been fascinated by Positive Psychology. Due to this I have used various self help techniques to work through issues in my own life.
This has inspired me to offer a rich blend of tools. I also take a flexible approach, which can help you find the best way forward as quickly as possible.
In 2006 I set up Harmony4Life Therapy in Bristol to help people to make positive changes for life by offering a variety of tried and tested psychological techniques.
These include in session techniques, such as hypnotherapy and self help techniques to give you a toolkit for life. I believe people should feel empowered and able to help themselves, rather than dependent on a therapist.
Your story, current situation and challenges are unique to you. Therefore, the way I work with you will be uniquely tailored.
We’ll spend time definining your goals and checking they're right for you. One way of doing this is to work out your values, what's most important to you, which can be life changing.
I will also help you to identify and understand unhelpful behaviour patterns and thoughts. This means that positive changes will be more quickly and permanently established than ever before.
What makes Harmony4Life Therapy different?
Going the extra mile
I am passionate about helping you make the positive changes you want and will go the extra mile to do this. Where relevant I offer supporting tools and tips via email following sessions.
Where appropriate I will use an aroma diffuser during sessions. I will select essential oils specifically for you to balance, harmonise and promote your physical and psychological health and wellbeing. I also use a SAD light during sessions for Seasonal Affective Disorder during the winter.
Tailored talking therapies
Together we can work out the best approach for you, e.g. CBT Therapy, Hypnotherapy and NLP or a combination, depending on your needs or preferences.
I use the information you provide to tailor each session more precisely; the more personalised sessions are (especially when using Hypnotherapy and NLP) the more effective they will be.
My unique toolkit
I aim to make positive changes for life easier than you think. I have developed a unique approach over the years and now offer an even greater range of psychological therapies.
This includes Solution Focused NLP and CBT Therapy, Hypnotherapy and NLP, Life Coaching, Exercise Therapy and Ladies Walk Talk Therapy.
Wherever you are
I can work with you wherever you are. I offer face to face, over the phone or online sessions, just let me know what suits you best.
You may find a face to face session a good place to start if you are in Bristol, Portishead, Clevedon, Yatton, Nailsea, Congresbury, Backwell, Cheddar, Axbridge, Langford, Wrington or Weston.
Overcoming barriers
I will work with you to set objectives and desired outcomes. Where it is safe to do so I will always address the root cause of any barrier which stops you from reaching your goals.
Free self assessment
Get my Self Assessment Package for free when you book your first session; this aims to reduce the number of sessions by providing valuable insights and getting to the root cause of issues.
There are over 10 questionnaires, including one for confidence, self esteem, anxiety and depression.

The field of psychology, cognitive behavioural, performance, life coaching, hypnotherapy and NLP is continually expanding. As such, new research and techniques are constantly developed.
I aim to meet annual development targets so that my skills are continually enhanced and updated. Consequently, all my clients receive the best possible hypnotherapy/ coaching solutions, to enable them to make positive changes.
To further ensure that I always select the best path for my clients I use my support networks. I attend peer support groups and draw upon the support of the Hypnotherapy company who I trained with. They were hugely supportive both during and following completion of my Hypnotherapy Diploma.
Also as a coach I believe it is very important to continuously focus on personal development. Therefore, I regularly practice self coaching and sometimes seek coaching from other professionals to compliment this.
Receiving coaching sparks my motivation and speeds up my progress towards my goals. It also helps me gain new self insights amongst other things.
I regularly use hypnotherapy, meditation and mindfulness to encourage positive feelings and thoughts. This helps remove any barriers to moving forward in my business or personal life.

What background experience, skills, and strengths do I personally bring?
I have experience of the following life transitions:
- Becoming a Mum of two
- Commitment to studying whilst working to complete my Coaching, Hypnotherapy, Mentoring, Reiki, ability and personality assessment qualifications
- Determination to find an alternative to corporate life which matched my values
- Rising above bullying in the workplace and overcoming low self-esteem
- Coping with the threat of redundancy and low morale in the workplace
- Overcoming relationship issues
- Travelling around the world for a year
- Coping with the sudden loss of my Dad in the final year of University
- Moving from student to corporate life
A lot of these experiences have been facilitated by coaching. Through getting results in these various situations I really developed a strong belief in the power of coaching.
My first and most powerful experience was when I had no manager at work. As a result I became very caught up in the political side of my job. I was also facing potential redundancy.
This was a very challenging time for me and one where my self esteem suffered for various reasons. However, due to coaching I felt supported and empowered. My perspective changed so that I was no longer ‘the victim’. I also stopped thinking negatively and became aware of my thinking patterns. In particular I realised how my thoughts reinforced my low self esteem and confidence.
Consequently the whole situation seemed much less daunting, my self esteem and confidence developed enormously and as a result I became much more positive and buoyant which enabled me to cope with difficult situations. Being able to share my progress with my coach at the time reinforced the changes that I made and helped me recognise how much I had achieved.
This is just one example of the power of psychological techniques such as coaching. For other examples see 'Success Stories'.
My strengths and skills as a Psychologist

- Empowering- I will work with you on a one-to-one basis to facilitate self discovery and fulfil your personal and professional potential
- Non-judgemental- I will always respect your views
- Challenging- I will hold you responsible and confront you if you show lack of commitment to the actions agreed and help you identify and replace limiting beliefs
- Friendly and patient- I aim to approach therapy in a way that makes you feel comfortable and will always be patient with you
Areas of specialism
I specialise in helping clients remove various internal blocks and have worked with people of many backgrounds and various ages (the youngest being 18). This includes overcoming anxiety, increasing self esteem and confidence. I help people to feel empowered and to develop the positive mental attitude necessary for success in all walks of life.
I particularly enjoy helping people overcome anxiety and increasing confidence to achieve a specific goal. For example, for interviews, driving tests, public speaking, sports and music performance.
I also have proven success in helping people regain control of their emotions and significantly improve their personal and professional relationships. Specific areas of personal interest include stress, insomnia and coping with bereavement.
I have successfully worked with people to improve their work performance and progress their career. I have achieved this through identifying development areas using psychometric tools.
I then used Cognitive Behavioural Coaching, Hypnotherapy and NLP techniques. This developed behaviours/ competencies (such as confidence) or skills (both soft and technical).
I have vast experience of professional coaching. This includes graduates/ young professionals who have entered large corporates at direct entry level. I helped them become more self directed so that they could take control of their development and career progression.
I can offer professional/ performance coaching to graduates/ young management trainees. I have previously found this to be very effective when used in association with psychometric tools.
Coaching helps graduates reach their full potential in line with career goals set at the start of a graduate scheme/ job. I believe coaching can act as the essential ‘thread’ that links all different aspects of development, e.g. on and off the job training/ development.
