Why Exercise Therapy?
As a Psychologist and someone who enjoys exercise I have always been interested in the psychological benefits of exercise. Please note I am not a personal trainer and do not offer any sessions revolving around exercise, apart from Ladies Walk Talk Therapy.
Exercise therapy relies on you taking regular exercise as a therapeutic method, however it is much more than this. Also it requires only as much commitment to exercise as you are able to give.
My aim is to help you experience the therapeutic benefits of exercise. I will do this through therapies which can help you improve performance, increase motivation and commitment to exercise and improve your state of mind.
I am offering Exercise Therapy based on the following theories:
- Exercise coupled with psychological techniques is really powerful and can help with a range of issues
- You are more likely to successfully manage an issue if therapy addresses both your physical and psychological well-being
I have benefited from various forms of exercise throughout my life and want to inspire others so that they can experience it’s many benefits too.
How it works
Exercise therapy can be face to face, over the phone or online. It can include any of the following and will be tailored to suit your preferences and needs:
1. FREE attitudes to exercise assessment
2. Identify main goal and motivation for therapy, e.g. overcome depression using a solution focused approach.
3. FREE Harmony4Life Assessment Package; this aims to reduce the number of sessions by providing valuable insights and getting to the root cause of issues. There are over 10 questionnaires, including confidence, self esteem, anxiety and depression.
4. Motivation coaching and exercise planning session. Includes overcoming procrastination, increasing self motivation, commitment and enjoyment of exercise. A Mindfulness based approach will help you to really tune into your feelings and state of mind after exercise. We will also discuss the benefits of green and blue ‘therapy’ (the benefits to mental health of spending time outside), going to the gym and working out at home.
5. I will use the most successful aspects of talking therapies to work on your main goal and motivation for therapy. This can include CBT Therapy (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) Hypnotherapy and NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) or a combination, depending on your needs or preferences. Here’s a list of some of the areas you may wish to work on. If you would like to work on something that’s not included below get in touch.
- Build self esteem and be confident so you can feel proud of yourself
- Feel happier and healthier
- Overcome anxiety, procrastination, jealousy, depression, postnatal depression, fears and phobias
- Establish healthy positive thinking patterns
- Develop emotional intelligence
- Increase motivation
- Enhance performance and overcome nerves related to specific situations, e.g. interviews, presentations, driving or motorbike test, sports or competition
- Make other changes for the better
6. Follow up appointments or e-mails to check on exercise aspect of programme and work on any barriers coming up.
7. FREE Harmony4Life Assessment Post Test to assess the impact of Exercise Therapy on specific areas you wanted to address, e.g. anxiety, depression, confidence.
